How to Clean Waterproof Laminate Floors

Waterproof laminate floors are installed with an interlocking design method. This type of flooring has been the go option for many because of its flexibility and easy maintenance. It is also an affordable flooring that can endure day-to-day activities and the mess of busy areas like your kitchen or bathroom. However, just because you have waterproof flooring, this is not to say that you neglect its cleaning and maintenance. When cleaning your waterproof laminate flooring, please do not use harsh chemicals or complicated cleaning tools because it might tarnish and scratch the floor surface and its waterproof coat protection.

Cleaning waterproof laminate floors is easy-peasy, manageable and should never be complicated. If you want to enjoy your flooring for an extended period of time, here are the tips and guides on how to clean your waterproof laminate floorings.

1. Use Simple Cleaning Techniques

A soft-bristled broom can do the job when sweeping the floor to clear all dirt, dust, and pet hairs. Sweep your floor regularly, and you can use a dry cloth to wipe off fine dust and unwanted dirt from piling up. You can also use a standard home vacuum cleaner to remove big dust bunnies and dirt from sealed floor surfaces. To mop the floor, use a microfiber mop or soft cloth to wipe out the spills on the floor, for it is safer to the floor.

2) Use minimal water

Your laminate flooring may be waterproof; however, it is still wise to use minimal water not to tarnish the floor. Damp the mop partly in water and wipe the floor. Avoid using cold water; instead use lukewarm so that all dirt and grime can get off easily. You can add a few drops of mild liquid soap to the water. If there is any spillage on the floor, wipe and clean it immediately as moisture will distort the floor. If you leave moisture for days, the worst thing that can happen is it can cause a permanent stain and irreversible damage to your floorings.

3) Use Mild Cleaning Products

Use only mild cleaning products and avoid putting them directly on the floor. Instead, add a few drops into a damp cloth or sponge to keep your floor clean. Applying soap will leave some sediments or deposits, causing streaks on the floor. Make sure to rinse with a damp clean mop or cloth to remove the residue. Also,  make sure to read the labels of the cleaning products before using them to be sure if they are safe for your laminate flooring. You can also combine vinegar and water for cleaning the floor. This will bring off a polished and spotless floor. Avoid using intense and rigorous products, oil-based or acid-based cleaning products; you might get the floor clean but at the risk of damaging your floor’s aesthetics.

To care for and maintain your waterproof laminate floors, you can lay down protective mats on your floorings. In addition, place furniture or felt pads underneath your tables, appliances, chairs and other moveable pieces of furniture to protect your laminate floors and prevent them from scratches.
